After the world ices over, heat is currency at Outpost E-13. Engineer Elian and signaler Lysa decode a drifting SOS tied to mirror towers and guide a crawler across fracture-prone ice, dodging sleeping drillers and the raiders of Lord Rime. With cleric Mother Wick and sick child Tala aboard, they live by the rule “Share Heat — Share Risk.” Traps of phased acoustic pings mislead pursuers; a hard choice to jettison fuel halves their time. The signal leads to Haven-0, whose gate is run by a brass-logic system, The Chorus, admitting only within thermal capacity. Lysa and Wick “hack” the rules by ritualizing the share-heat ethic; Elian donates his arm’s heater and holds outside night watch. Rime is cast into a throat of ice; Wick dies stabilizing the covenant. The community lights a common boiler, rotates duty in the warm spill, and broadcasts a new cadence across the ice: “Signal of Survival: We have heat. Share it.” Distant outposts answer, and hope travels by light and steam.
