-First of all, anyone can train in Motivational Interviewing. You can find advanced trainings on www.motivationalintervewing.org to work on your own MII practice, which is essential to becoming a great trainer! There are tons of training resources out there for your use!
One free trainer resource is the TNT (trainer manual). This is available to the public and is full of training activities that you can use if you are facilitating learning activities. David Rosengren’s Building Motivational Interviewing Skills book is also a great resource for learning and facilitating MI activities. There’s even a chapter in that book around facilitating MI learning groups in your organization.
-Many people form MI learning communities to continue their practice in MI, in addition to taking trainings from MINT members. Here is the link to a document on the MINT website about how to create learning communities: https://motivationalinterviewing.org/...

Becoming a MINT member:

-Joining the MINT (Motivational Interviewing Network of Trainers) is the gold standard for MI training. It’s a truly amazing worldwide community of trainers who share resources, get together once a year for MI training and research updates, and support one another.
-It also means MI trainers have been ‘vetted’ through a rigorous application process, and trained in the best ways to train others in MI
-To join the MINT, you apply, are accepted, then attend the TNT (Training for New Trainers), typically offered once per year.
-There is a fee to apply, nonrefundable (was @$175 in 2021). There is a fee to attend the TNT (and there is also scholarship available)
-There will be a standardized patient live application component as well as a written application to apply (see info below on what’s typically included). The standardized patient interview is where you demonstrate your awesome MI skills! Many people practice MI sessions to work toward fidelity in preparing for this.
-Applications typically open in March or April for a fall TNT.
-The next scheduled TNT is in Chicago, IL October 17-19th, 2022
 
If you want to prepare to apply, you can begin preparing now! You will need to include:
 
Information about your initial training, including when and who gave it
How long you have used MI and what setting
What you have done to develop your proficiency since initial training (any courses taken, books read, etc.)
If you were observed, had a mentor or supervisor that observed your skills via supervision, coaching, or coding
Two referrals
What do you anticipate doing to further your training of MI
 
Know that applications open, and they are full very quickly. There is typically only @90 spots per year for the TNT. They fill the training with first come/ first served if the criteria is met for standardized patient and application.
