Jynx paid for unlimited lodging with a platinum piece and demonstrated his unusual nature by consuming food and wine through his opened face, explaining he processed items as data rather than experiencing taste. When challenged by hunters to prove his craftsmanship, Jynx forged a crude but razor-sharp knife in fifteen minutes at the bar, impressing the patrons. Xavath detected multiple magical items on Rictavio, including an illusion-enchanted hat, warning the party to watch the eccentric performer. The hunters Yevgeni and Szoldar shared valuable information about Barovia's dangers, including deadly twig blights, a mysterious hut with bird legs, and warnings about the Baron's henchman Izek, who possessed a devil's arm. Urwin, the innkeeper, explained the town's mandatory weekly festivals, which Baron Vargas Vallakovich believed protected Vallaki from Strahd, though Urwin dismissed the Baron as a pompous, corrupt aristocrat.
