Barrie based skaters to represent Canada on international stage

Summer Homick and Nicholas Buelow, who train at Mariposa School of Skating, selected for Skate Canada junior world team
The Mariposa School of Skating is proud to congratulate Summer Homick and Nicholas Buelow on an outstanding competitive season, highlighted by a silver-medal finish at the 2026 Canadian National Skating Championships and their official selection to the Skate Canada junior world team.
Training in Barrie at the Mariposa School of Skating, Homick and Buelow have quickly established themselves as one of Canada’s top emerging ice dance teams.
“Summer and Nicholas have shown that they can overcome adversity and get the job done multiple times in their short time together,” says Mitchell Islam, dance director.
Their success at the national level reflects both their athletic ability and their commitment to excellence, as they continue to build momentum on the pathway toward further international success.
“This is exciting not only for Summer and Nicholas, but for the skaters in Barrie to see someone who started here from the beginning make it to world-level competition is inspiring,” says David Islam, co-owner of Mariposa. “Their dedication, professionalism, and drive are exceptional, and we are thrilled to see them recognized at the national level and selected to represent Canada.”
