As part of the 2025 Universal Health Coverage (UHC) Day campaign, ADB organized the webinar, partnering with Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ), openIMIS, and Amref Health Africa, and it brought together experts, policymakers, and social health insurance leaders across Asia to explore how Artificial Intelligence (AI) can strengthen health financing systems amid rising costs and fragmented processes. Speakers emphasized that AI is an enabler—not a substitute for governance—enhancing claims automation, fraud detection, forecasting, and service quality. Data readiness, including interoperability and structured Electronic Medical Records (EMRs), emerged as the top prerequisite for adoption. Country presentations showcased progress: Uzbekistan is piloting AI for claims and fraud detection; Pakistan has implemented AI for imaging fraud and automated claims; and the Philippines is building digital foundations for fraud control and quality assurance. Panelists stressed ethical frameworks, regulatory oversight, and capacity building, while ADB highlighted regional collaboration and digital public goods as accelerators. With strong foundations, AI offers the Asia Pacific Region a transformative opportunity to leapfrog barriers and advance UHC by 2030.
