I show how the Commemorative Community Mosaic Project for The Art Place is transferred to the substrate with a projector, then straightened up with a t-square and ruler. I set up the project outside and spent about 90 minutes working with the public celebrating the 30th Anniversary of the facility.

I dive deep into how I actually approach cutting pieces for the sky. I cut the glass down with a scoring tool and running pliers. Then I take the shapes and scrap shapes to my workbench and nip pieces to fit. I sometimes use a dry erase marker to mark the glass where I should break it. Or a eyeball it! Lastly, when the pieces get tight and need more precision, I can use clear shelf paper to trace a shape. Then I stick that on the glass and score through the plastic to achieve the shape. I often cut glass a bit on the big side and nip it down to fit. For this whole process, the streakiness on the glass must be horizontal in general.

Then I transfer the design for the sunflower commission, add Apoxie Sculpt in natural and begin by placing the bronze colored druzy. Then I start laying the beads, making sure they are securely pressed into the Apoxie. My client has requested brown and orange for the center. After it sets up a bit I lay in the larger beads ringing the center area.

Lastly, there is a final push to finish the background sky on the big sunflower project!!! Lots of cutting and nipping those last bits of glass. WHEW! (That only took me 8 weeks!)
