This video looks at the literal historical origins of paladins and bards and why we use those names in Dungeons and Dragons. I take a look at the legends of Charlemagne and Celtic Britain, as well as more modern analysis of Dungeons and Dragons including the inspiration for Gygax's version of the paladin. I also look at the bard's first appearance in TSR's Strategic Review and the paladin's first appearance in OD&D.
