Описание: In this video, we’re at the City of Alvin Wastewater Treatment Plant and the City’s wastewater lab to share an update on the Wastewater Treatment Plant (WWTP) Expansion Project—what’s included, why it’s needed, and how it improves reliability for our community.

What’s happening
The City is expanding the WWTP from 5.0 million gallons per day (MGD) to 7.5 MGD, adding 2.5 MGD of additional treatment capacity. This expansion helps the City keep up with growth while maintaining safe, dependable wastewater service.

What the project includes
This project combines expanded treatment capacity with critical improvements across the facility, including:

-Pump upgrades and expanded pump capacity
-Tank expansions and treatment process improvements
-Clarifier improvements
-Electrical improvements to support plant safety and reliability
-Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) upgrades so staff can monitor key levels and systems remotely (the plant does not currently have this capability)
-Generator capacity upgrades to improve reliability during power outages, storms, and emergency events

Why this matters
The WWTP has exceeded 75% of its permitted flow capacity, and the City is proactively planning for long-term service needs. The expansion also supports required updates tied to Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ) permitting, including a major permit amendment needed for the capacity increase.

As part of the engineering work, the City is completing a Preliminary Engineering Report (PER) that documents alternative evaluations and the recommended approach for expansion and improvements. The PER will include design criteria, preliminary layouts, and an engineer’s opinion of probable construction cost.
