The Orkney Native Wildlife Project is working to eradicate non-native Stoats from the islands. They threaten ground nesting birds and eat the Orkney Voles that Hen Harriers and Short-eared Owls rely on.
Europe's first Stoat Detection Dogs are helping to find where stoats are. The dogs' super sensitive sense of smell means they can uncover evidence of Stoats where humans would struggle to find it.
Find out more about these amazing working dogs in this video.
The Orkney Native Wildlife Project is a partnership between RSPB Scotland,
NatureScot and Orkney Islands Council with generous support from the
National Lottery Heritage Fund and EU LIFE (LIFE17 UK/NAT/000557)
as well as in kind and financial contributions from partners.
The project was supported by the Scottish Government’s
Nature Restoration Fund,managed by NatureScot.
We are also grateful to many charitable trusts,
individual donors and RSPB members who have supported
this important project.
