St. Mary’s Island, or Coconut Island, is a renowned, uninhabited geological marvel off the coast of Malpe in Udupi, Karnataka. Famous for its rare hexagonal basaltic rock formations, white sand, and crystal-clear water, it is accessible by a 20-30 minute ferry from Malpe beach. It is a popular, eco-sensitive, plastic-free destination often visited for birdwatching and, in particular, its unique volcanic scenery. Only accessible by ferry from Malpe Beach/Sea Walk. Rates are approximately ₹300–₹450 for a round trip.The island is a strict, no-plastic zone. Visitors should carry sun protection, as there is little shade, and bring their own water.It is best for a 2-3 hour, day-trip exploration.Open year-round, but generally closed during the monsoon season (June to September).
