Описание: Malaysia’s Hidden Christian Landmarks! (Shocking History) | Part 1

Malaysia is known for its rich cultural and religious diversity, but how often do we hear about its deep-rooted Christian history? In this first episode of my four-part series, Inside Malaysia’s Hidden Christian Landmarks, I take you inside two incredible churches in Malacca—Christ Church Malacca, built in 1753, and Tamil Methodist Church, founded in 1908 on the historic Jonker Street. And to make the experience even more powerful, I visited both churches on Communion Sunday, a sacred day of reflection, faith, and unity. Special thanks to Rev Sammy Dass and Rev. Thomas (Tom) Cherian.

📍 Christ Church Malacca (1753) – A Colonial Legacy

Stepping into Christ Church Malacca, the oldest functioning Protestant church in Malaysia, felt like walking through a portal to the past. Built by the Dutch, this striking red-bricked church has stood tall for over 270 years, witnessing the transformations of Malacca from colonial rule to modern-day Malaysia. The air inside was thick with history—the old wooden pews, the centuries-old Dutch tombstones embedded in the floors, and the echoes of hymns that have filled this space for generations. On Communion Sunday, the congregation gathered, singing in unison as they partook in a sacred tradition that has been passed down for centuries.

📍 Tamil Methodist Church (1908) – A Testament to Faith

Just a short walk away on the bustling Jonker Street, I stepped into Tamil Methodist Church, a place where history, culture, and faith intertwine. Established in 1908 by Tamil-speaking Christians, this church remains a vital spiritual home for Malaysia’s Indian Christian community. The warmth of the congregation was immediately felt—the welcoming smiles, the blend of Tamil and English hymns, and the deep sense of devotion. Communion Sunday here was an intimate and moving experience, where faith transcended language, and people from all walks of life came together to worship.

🙏 What This Experience Taught Me

Visiting these churches on Communion Sunday wasn’t just about history—it was about witnessing the resilience of faith in a country where so many religions coexist. Whether it’s a 270-year-old Dutch-built church or a 116-year-old Tamil congregation, these places continue to be living testaments to Malaysia’s multi-faith heritage.

This is just Part 1 of our journey into Malaysia’s hidden religious landmarks. Next up, we’re stepping inside one of the country’s most breathtaking mosques to uncover the deep traditions of Islam in Malaysia. Make sure to LIKE, COMMENT, and SUBSCRIBE so you don’t miss it!
