In a historic announcement, the Kanchi Kamakoti Peetham has declared 24-year-old Vedic scholar Duddu Satya Venkata Surya Subrahmanya Ganesh Sharma Dravid as its 71st Acharya. The coronation (abhisheka) ceremony will be held on Akshaya Tritiya, April 30, in Kanchipuram. Sri Shankar Vijayendra Saraswathi Swamigal will initiate the new pontiff through the Sanyasa Deeksha. Ganesh Sharma, originally from Annavaram, is a noted Rigveda scholar and is being honored with the responsibility to carry forward the spiritual legacy of the Kanchi Math. This is a significant moment in the spiritual and Vedic tradition of India.
