Pros are using this lure with forward facing sonar to catch a ton of fish! But I'm bank fishing today and wanted to know if it works without FFS or if I'm just wasting my time throwing it.
The Berkley Krej was sent to me about a month ago to test out. I tossed it around my pond a few weeks ago to no avail. So I went home and studied how it was supposed to be fished and feel better prepared today!
I've heard several pros say it works incredibly well in herring lakes, but none of the ponds I plan to fish have herring in them... so Idk if it will work or not.
When to fish the Berkley Krej
I've seen a lot of anglers using this at the same time they would use a jerkbait.
Today is early March, so it's late winter/early spring. I don't know if this is the ideal time of year for it, but I think this lure could get a bite or two anytime fish are in the open water.
From what I've watched, this lure works best in clear water. So even if it's a time when you'd catch'em on a jerkbait, if the water is dirty, there are better lures to use.
Where to Fish the Berkley Krej
Anywhere you'd fish a jerkbait, the Berkley Krej will also catch'em.
It is primarily an open-water lure, meaning you can fish it along the edge of weed beds and over the top of brush and rock piles, but since it has treble hooks, it's more likely to get snagged.
Because it sinks, it can also be fished at different depths. If I'm not catching fish at a certain depth, I can let it sink more or less to see if that triggers a bite.
How to Fish The Berkley Krej From The Bank
I tried fishing it like a jerkbait at my pond because I didn't know how to use it. After watching hours of YouTube videos, I discovered some new techniques to try today.
Since I can't see how the fish react to my lure like I could if I were using FFS, I'd have to switch between these techniques to figure out which one will trigger a bite.
Letting it sink to the bottom and slowly reeling it back
Using it like a wake bait
Reel, stop (let it fall on slack line), reel, stop, reel
Working it less vigorously than a jerkbait
