Soludo Threatens to Revoke Onitsha Main Market Land Over Sit-At-Home

Anambra State Governor Chukwuma Soludo has warned that the land housing the Onitsha Main Market could be revoked and repurposed if traders continue to shut shops on Mondays in observance of the sit-at-home order. Speaking with leaders of the Anambra State Markets Amalgamated Traders Association, the governor described the closures as economic sabotage and stated that the state has the legal authority to reclaim the land in the public interest while offering compensation. Authorities say security has improved, with personnel deployed to the market and officials tasked with monitoring compliance with opening hours and imposing penalties for noncompliance. Social worker and Onitsha Chamber of Commerce member Ozioma Enieto shares the reaction from traders and residents.
