This a cappella arrangement of the traditional spiritual set for baritone solo and SATB choir comes out of the work song tradition. The call and response between the soloist and choir is classic and offers a wonderful opportunity to teach this important style.

"Gospel Plow" (also known as "Hold On" and "Keep Your Hand on the Plow") is a traditional African American spiritual. It is listed in the Roud Folk Song Index, number 10075. The title is biblical, based on Luke 9:62.
