Here's an explanation of each type of character:
4 Star is the highest level you can summon. You level them up to 6 star by obtaining copies or resources obtained in game.

💙*2 Stars*: are you basic fodder level gacha characters that are easy to get and generally are not useful to the game except for leveling up your support. See my support guide here:    • BEGINNER COMPLETE SUPPORT GUIDE FOR NEW PL...  

💜*3 Stars*: Again, more fodder level characters for the most part. Bandai occasionally releases new ones of this level as free event characters. Generally shouldn't be played in the competitive league battle.

💛*4 Star Cola Characters*: These characters may ONLY be obtained using cola. In order to obtain cola you must pull a copy of a unit you have already maxed out at 100. These units generally are not meta however some have been good in the past. Bandai releases 1 of these MAYBE once a year...if that...

🧡*4 Star Step Up Characters*: These characters come out about two per month. They're generally easier to obtain usually requiring ~230 rainbow gems for a guaranteed copy in your gacha summons. Their abilities generally more balanced and only a small handful of these characters have been meta.

🤍*4 Star Movie Characters*: These units where considered "Rare" as somebody like Douglas Bullet came out and did not return for 2 years. Many thought he was event exclusive and would never be found again. HOWEVER, recently these characters have been getting re-runs and now they show up with specific movie events every 3-6 months. All are from a specific One Piece Movie.

🖤*4 Star Bounty Fest Characters*: These characters are released about 2 per month with a special feature banner that runs about 1 month long. The older ones are awful in the meta. Power creep is real in this game. Generally most of these become meta for a few months then leave the meta after power creep has taken over. The units you pull from this level generally are pretty good and a good chunk of them are very playable. Some are even top of the meta. These are also known as "Legendary" characters. 750 gems usually gets you to a guaranteed copy but since there's a chance to get 1 out of 2 you might keep getting the same 1.

❤️*4 Star Extreme Characters*: These characters ARE the meta. They dominate and are extremely broken. They re-run about every 6 months for old extreme characters, and every 6 months for new extreme characters. Generally the newest one counters the one that came before it. They're extremely expensive costing about 2,000-3,000+ rainbow gems for a guaranteed copy. They have a VERY low summon rate as well. These are the units you will end up using most of the time.
