पहलगाम हलमे के बाद पाकिस्तान के साथ सिंधु जल समझौता रोक देने के बादा अब भारत ने चेनाब नदी पर हाइडेल प्रॉजेक्ट बनाने के काम को आगे बढ़ा दिया है। हाइडेल प्रॉजेक्ट का मतलब क्या ? मतलब ये कि नदी के बहते पानी से बिजली बनाई जाएगी। सिंधु जल समझौते में ये है कि भारत पाकिस्तान को जिन नदियों का पानी दिया गया था उनके पानी में भी बहते पानी से अगर बिजली बनाना चाहे तो बना सकता है। मतलब पानी अपनी तरफ़ मोड़े बिना अगर पानी से बिजली बना कर उसे आगे बढ़ाया जाता है तो वो भारत कर सकता था समझौते में। इसको कहते हैं ‘रन ऑफ़ द रिवर’ प्रॉजेक्ट। यानी बहते पानी का इस्तेमाल करना। लेकिन पाकिस्तान इस पर भी टांग अड़ाता रहता था। कि भारत पानी रोक कर मोड़ देगा। ख़ैर अब तो भारत ने समझौता ही रोका हुआ है। अब, चेनाब नदी पर भारत ने सावलकोट हाइड्रोइलेक्ट्रिक प्रॉजेक्ट के काम को आगे बढ़ा दिया। एक बांध बनेगा और पानी को गिरकाकर इसमें 1856 MW बिजली बनाई जाएगी। लागत आएगी 5129 करोड़ रुपये। ये बनेगा जम्मू-कश्मीर के उधमपुर और रामबन ज़िलों में। चेनाब पर। जो 6 नदियां भारत से पाकिस्तान जाती हैं उनमें चेनाब भी है। सिंधु, झेलम, चेनाब, रावी, ब्यास और सतलुज ये हैं तो 6 नदियां जो पाकिस्तान जाती हैं लेकिन इनमें बाक़ी 5 नदियां वहां जा कर सिंधु में ही मिल जाती हैं। यानी झेलम, चेनाब, रावी, ब्यास और सतलुज सब सिंधु में ही मिल जाती हैं। इसलिए इस समझौते को सिंधु जल संधि कहते हैं। और उनमें जो पूर्व के तरफ़ की तीन नदियां हैं यानी रावी, ब्यास और सतलुज उनका पानी तो भारत के हिस्से दिया गया था समझौते में। और पश्चिम वाली तीन नदियों यानी सिंधु, झेलम और चेनाब का पानी गया था पाकिस्तान के हिस्से में। हालांकि उन नदियों पर भी भारत ‘रन ऑफ़ द रिवर’ प्रॉजेक्ट बना सकता था। यानी बहते पानी से बिजली बना सकता था। कि बांध बनाकर बिजली बना ली और पानी फिर आगे जाने दिया। लेकिन उन तीन नदियों पर कुछ भी करने पर पाकिस्तान से बात करनी होती थी। और पाकिस्तान हर बार कोई ना कोई आपत्ति जता देता था। चेनाब पर सावलकोट प्रॉजेक्ट इसीलिए अटका हुआ था। अब भारत ने इसको आगे बढ़ा दिया है।

India has now moved forward with the Sawalkot Hydroelectric Project on the Chenab River. A dam will be built, and 1856 MW of electricity will be generated by diverting the water. The cost will be ₹5,129 crore. It will be built in the Udhampur and Ramban districts of Jammu and Kashmir. On the Chenab. The Chenab is one of the six rivers that flow from India to Pakistan. The Indus, Jhelum, Chenab, Ravi, Beas, and Sutlej are the six rivers that flow to Pakistan, but the remaining five flow into the Indus. That is, the Jhelum, Chenab, Ravi, Beas, and Sutlej all flow into the Indus. Therefore, this agreement is called the Indus Water Treaty. The waters of the three eastern rivers, the Ravi, Beas, and Sutlej, were allocated to India in the agreement. The waters of the three western rivers, the Indus, Jhelum, and Chenab, were allocated to Pakistan.
