'Escape Into Night' is a cult 1972 6-part supernatural children's series based on the 1958 book 'Marianne Dreams' by Catherine Storr. Confined to bed after an accident Marriane turns to drawing only to find herself living in those drawings each night in her dreams. As she adds to the drawings so those additions turn up in her dreams. In both her drawings and dreams there is a boy living in an old house surrounded by moving stones with eyes. Is he merely a dream or another child who finds himself in the same dream as Marianne? Can they both escape before the moving stones break in? Those stones left an indelible mark on many children's memories.
It was shown on ITV. Originally made in colour it now, sadly, only exists in black and white. Like so many shows of that era the original recordings were wiped.
Episode 1: Marianne Austin is bored. Stuck in bed after a riding accident, she finds life is dragging - until she discovers a pencil in her great-grandmother's workbox. When she draws, a weird dream invades her waking life...
