Latest status of Super Trishuli Hydropower under construction on Trishuli River in Ichchakamana Rural Municipality

The Super Trishuli Hydropower Project under construction in the Trishuli River area within Ichchakamana Rural Municipality of Chitwan district is currently progressing at a rapid pace. This project, which was launched with the aim of increasing national energy production, has recently seen significant improvement in physical progress.

Construction progress: Acceleration in main structures

The construction of the intake structure to collect water from the river under the project has almost reached the final stage. Along with this, the work of digging the headrace tunnel to carry water to the powerhouse has also progressed significantly, most of which has been completed, the project has stated.

Foundation, concreting and steel structure installation work is progressing rapidly at the powerhouse construction site. According to the technical team, the overall physical progress of the project is currently estimated to be between 55-65 percent. Construction companies are working day and night, taking advantage of the dry weather.

Preparation for equipment installation

The import process for key equipment required for power generation—such as turbines, generators, and control systems—is in its final stages. Some of the equipment has already arrived at the site and the rest is expected to arrive soon. Once the equipment installation begins, the project construction is expected to gain momentum.

Local Impact and Infrastructure Development

The project is having a positive impact at the local level. Infrastructure development works such as road expansion, bridge construction, and access road improvement are underway within Ichchakamana Rural Municipality. Local youth have found employment opportunities, while hotels, shops, and transportation businesses have also seen an increase in activity.

However, some locals have complained about changes in river flow, dust, and noise pollution. The project has stated that measures such as dust control, tree plantation, and water flow management have been adopted to minimize environmental impacts.
