We certainly have our share of shorebirds that migrate through the Upper Midwest but few species that actually nest here. We do have one species of plover however that can be found in our area in abundance and that is the Killdeer.
This video highlights a nest here in Houston County that I was able to witness the hatching of four, cute little Killdeer chicks that hatched on June 21, 2020.
The chicks hatch fully developed and are able to stand and walk within minutes. They can be quite a handful for the parents that must help to find them food shortly after hatching.
