As concerns grow over the outbreak of coronavirus in the United States, public health officials are telling people that the No. 1 thing they can do is to properly wash their hands.
While washing hands is the best way to clean your hands, soap and water aren’t always available. That’s when the World Health Organization recommends using an alcohol-based formulation, like hand sanitizer.
But if you think you can just give your fingers a quick rubdown with a dab of hand sanitizer, the WHO says you’re not going far enough. They recommend that people follow these 8 steps to clean hands using hand sanitizer, which takes about 40 seconds total.
