ABOUT THE FORUM

This forum is part of an ongoing research project at The UWI to document the experiences and perspectives of women in representative politics and democratic processes in the Anglophone Caribbean.

The panel is meant to give a variety of persons involved in the recent election campaign a chance to discuss how issues of gender and sexuality, and assumptions about masculinity and femininity, shaped media and public debates and personal experiences of those involved.

Typically, in post-election discussions, emphasis is placed on understanding women’s experiences of election campaigning, and reflecting on the effectiveness of strategies such as a Women’s Manifesto or the women’s cross-party caucus. However, this time, we would like to bring men into the discussion, as well as LGBTI electoral activism, to broaden our understanding of the connections amongst a variety of those seeking office as well as seeking to influence the issues raised in and beyond elections.
