As the legend goes, this was the song sung by Muthuswami Dikshitar’s disciples when he shed his mortal coil and merged with Goddess Meenakshi ( His favorite goddess ). This exquisite krithi is a devotional hymn in praise of Meenakshi, the presiding deity of Madurai. The composer extols her divine qualities. her graceful form, emerald-hued complexion, fish-shaped eyes, and her power to liberate devotees from worldly bonds. She is revered as the daughter of King Malayadhwaja Pandya and the beloved consort of Lord Sundareshwara (Shiva), embodying compassion, beauty, and victory. The song also celebrates her celestial abode in Madurai, her jewel-studded palace, and her deep connection to music and divine joy, presenting her as a radiant and benevolent goddess.
