He composed two symphonies, several additional orchestral works, and numerous songs, all of them taking inspiration from Russian folksongs. Russian Cello Music . His symphonies, particularly the First, were frequently performed in the early 20th century. V. Kalinnikov Chanson Triste / Sad Song is a good example of Russian romantic cello music.
