The Alcohol and Tobacco Compliance Unit conducts minor decoy operations throughout the year to make sure retailers are complying with alcohol and tobacco sale laws.
In these operations a volunteer (18 or 19 years old) with the Sheriff's Office will attempt to purchase alcohol or tobacco from the retailer.
The goal is not only to ensure the retailers are following the laws, but to keep alcohol and tobacco out of the hands of those who are underage. This will in turn prevent dangerous and potentially deadly situations.
