Today is Terpene Tuesday and we are going to discuss Humulene.
Humulene is an (isomer of B- caryophyllene- OR has been noted as A-caryophyllene) Isomer means that each of the two compounds have the same “formula” but different arrangement of molecules w/ different energy states
Many of the same plants containing β-caryophyllene—such as basil, sage, and clove—also contain humulene w/ similar aromas.
Humulene is a sesquiterpene that, while relatively common, is often found in low concentrations in cannabis.
Humulene is found in - hops, basil, coriander, sage, clove, black pepper and balsam fir tree, ginseng
Humulene Smells - herbaceous, spicy, earthy, woody w/ subtle floral aromas
Humulene Benefits:
Weight loss: As an appetite suppressant, humulene works alongside other chemicals in cannabis to promote weight loss.
Analgesic or Pain Reliever
Anti-inflammatory - very strong properties where the terpene has been compared to the steroid dexamethasone
Arthritis, bursitis, fibromyalgia, and any condition that benefits from reducing inflammation.
Anti-Cancer: Humulene inhibits tumor growth by producing reactive oxygen species, chemicals that help destroy cancer cells.
Anti-Bacterial esp against staph infection. ( has been via other plants)
Anti-Viral - Malaria, dengue fever, lymphatic filariasis, and other viruses from early third-stage larvae. Like linalool and limonene, humulene is toxic against fungus and pests.
