Electric two-wheeler startups have played an important role in encouraging the adoption of EVs in India and we can now add yet another name to that list. Boom Motors, a Coimbatore-based electric vehicles manufacturer, has launched Corbett 14 and Corbett 14-EX e-scooters in India at ₹89,999 and ₹124,999, respectively. Claimed to be 'India’s most durable' scooter, Boom Corbett EV will become available for bookings in the country starting today.

Boom Motors is the first EV company to offer customers to purchase our vehicles for 5-year EMI. Rates will start at Rs. 1,699 per month – which is less than what many people spend on petrol. For convenience, we are offering swappable battery with a portable charger that will allow the bike to be charged anywhere. Today many people struggle with charging in apartments, offices and malls. For peace-of-mind, we are offering service touchpoints across the country, roadside assistance and of course an unbeatably durable bike that will have minimal downtime to begin with."

Boom e-scooter get swappable 2.3kWh and 4.6kWh battery, respectively. The new electric scooter's 14-EX variant can achieve a top speed of 75 km/h, whereas the base variant can achieve 65 km/h. The e scooter also manages to offer an impressive range: 200 km per charge for the 14-EX variant and 100 km per charge for the 14. The Corbett can be charged in 4 hours via a standard charger and 2.5 hours with a fast charger.

The company also noted the e-scooters will be available with a seven-year warranty, while the IoT-enabled smart battery will be covered by a five-year warranty. At the end of the scooter's battery life, the batteries will be repurchased by Boom Motors and deployed for other uses.

The company claims it to be the India’s most durable e-scooter. The Corbett EV has been launched at ₹89,999 (ex-showroom) and the bookings for it will start on November 12.

Corbett electric scooter also offers EMI option starting at ₹1,699. “I believe that climate change is the biggest threat in front of us and have made it our mission to eliminate the largest sources of pollution in India – vehicular pollution," said Anirudh Ravi Narayanan, CEO of Boom Motors.

We believe that in order for EVs to achieve mass-scale adoption, the vehicles need to not just be better for the environment, but also better for your wallet, the company claims.

What’s The Price? Who Are Its Rivals?

The asking prices are Rs 86,999 and Rs 1,19,999 (both ex-showroom) for the standard and EX variants, respectively. However, these are introductory prices and they will go up by Rs 3,000 for the base variant and Rs 5,000 for the EX. Online bookings begin tomorrow for a token of Rs 499. It’ll rival the Rugged G1 and G1 Plus.

How Many Variants Are There?
The Boom Corbett is available in two variants: Corbett 14 and Corbett 14-EX.

What's New?
Boom has powered the Corbett-14 by a 3kW and the Corbett 14-EX by a 4kW BLDC hub motor. The top speed is limited to 65kmph for the former and 75kmph for the latter. However, the standard variant can only house a single 2.3kWh swappable battery, whereas the EX can accommodate two of those.

This naturally translates to double the range -- claimed 100kms for the base variant and 200km for the EX.

The charging time for both variants is between 2.5 and 4 hours (depending on whether you're using the fast charger or the regular one). Boom also offers portable chargers for increased convenience. You get a 5-year warranty on the battery and a 7-year warranty on the double-cradle steel chassis.

Feature-wise, the e-scooter gets LED illumination, petrol savings tracking, CO2 offset tracking, accident/theft detection, and parental mode for extra safety. The underseat storage is limited to 30 litres.

The Corbett is suspended on anti-dive 4-point adjustable front springs and rear 4-point adjustable dual units. For braking, you have front and rear discs.

While the Corbett 14's design is quite quirky, you can't help but remember the Rugged G1 e-scooter by the looks of it. Heck! Not just the styling, but even the stickers are positioned at the same spots!
