It's Spinning Cube Time (VMware Workstation 17/Ubuntu 12.04)

Описание: Many moons ago, late 2000's, I had a PC with an AMD Athlon XP and a Nvidia Geforce GPU (Don't remember exact model) connected via AGP (remember that slot). That machine originally ran Ubuntu 7.10. When I heard about the spinning cube rendered via Compiz, I knew I had to try it out. While not serving a practical purpose, it sure in the Hell looked super awesome.

I knew that while exploring the evolution of Linux, it would eventually only be a matter of time before I would get 3D acceleration working in a VM. As soon as that happened, it was time to load that cube for another run. With Ubuntu 12.04 running with full 3D acceleration support, the CompizConfig Settings Manager was installed for us to enable the effect. We can configure any number of sides, so the cube isn't necessarily a cube. Again, while this is largely pointless, it looks really cool, and really fun to navigate between the different sides too. However, one can overload system resources when loading various heavy-hitting programs.

VMware Workstation 17 is virtualizing a x64 multimedia workstation with two cores allocated to it. The host has an AMD Ryzen 5 5500 6-Core processor). There is 6GB's of RAM allocated to the VM. There is a Ensoniq AudioPCI Audio Adapter and an Intel PRO/1000MT Ethernet Adapter installed. There is a VESA Compatible Display Adapter installed with 3D Passthrough GPU acceleration enabled. The screen resolution is set to 1280 by 800. Ubuntu 12.04 AMD64 version is installed.
