Colonel Joseph Campbell Mayo, Jr., of the 3rd Virginia Infantry led his 322 men into Gettysburg and suffered a wound in the hand during Pickett’s Charge. His vivid, graphic account of the attack was published in the Southern Historical Society Papers in 1906—eight years after his death. Here's his recollection.
