The number of armed officers on patrol in London is “significantly less than normal” after dozens stepped back from duties last week.
Sir Mark Rowley, the Metropolitan Police commissioner, said numbers are “strengthening” but added the situation has created “difficult choices” for the force.
About 300 firearms officers refused to carry guns over the weekend after a colleague was charged with the murder of an unarmed man in south London.
