Every community and culture has a little bit of gatekeeping. It can be necessary to preserve the history and essence of that culture and community. But once inclusion is no longer a part of the equation that's when it gets problematic. Especially when people call themselves creating rules that seem to only benefit them and not the community and culture as a whole.
They come off as "well-meaning" in their attempts legislate and preserve the history and essence, but when you dig beneath the surface, their motives are selfish and self-serving. But what do you think? Is gatekeeping in sneakers a necessary evil or an unnecessary nuisance?
