Описание: The opening cutscene before the mission states that German forces entered the city of Paris on June 4th 1940, when in reality it was actually the 14th of June. There are also way too few Germans marching down the Arc De Triomphe. The Germans should be surrounded on all sides by Parisian civilians watching the marching columns, but instead they are flanked by Panzer IV Ausf A and Js, Tiger Is and Panther tanks, neither of which entered service until the years following the invasion. The Germans never hung a swastika banner from the Arc De Triomphe. It also was not raining during this event like it is in the scene, but this is probably just for dramatic effect to make the Germans look more evil. The name of this mission has been changed from “THE BLOODIEST BATTLE OF THE WAR” to “THE CAPITAL OF THE RUINS” as the town of Saint Lô was referred to as “the Capital of the Ruins” due to 95% of it being destroyed by bombing raids and artillery barrages. It was also nowhere near the scale of the bloodiest battle of World War Two as that was Stalingrad. Perhaps the game developers meant the bloodiest battle of the war for the American side, which was the Battle of the Bulge which was not until late December of 1944 to late January of 1945. and this still did not compare to that either. The date has been changed from July 19th to July 18th as the town of Saint Lô was already mostly captured by the 19th and only mopping up operations against German snipers and troops still present in some of the buildings occured. The time has also been changed to 1830 hours as that is around when Task Force C of the U.S. 29th Infantry Division would be assaulting the town. At the beginning of the mission, we meet Private Huxley who shows us the ropes which is basic Call of Duty fashion to show you how to play the game in the first mission. Looking from a realistic and historical perspective however, this likely would not be happening as our character (Nichols) would not need to be shown the ropes as he would have most likely already gone through basic training before arriving at the front. Huxley also never wears a helmet throughout the game but instead wears an M4 cap which was issued only to aircraft mechanics. His head must sweat to high Heaven in France’s summer heat not to mention he has no protection from shrapnel or something falling on his head during combat. Corporal Dixon says during the truck ride that we are assisting Task Force C from the west. Task Force C of the U.S. 29th Infantry Division advanced south into Saint Lô from the northeast, not the west, we also reached Saint Lô fairly quickly from where we were camped which would mean we were in fact to the west of the town which was behind German lines. Task Force C was actually camped in Kuan to the northeast of the town and it took them three hours to arrive in Saint Lô due to wartime travel complications but obviously the game is not going to make you ride in a truck for three hours. After our truck is wrecked, we meet a Private First Class Guzzo who is demanded to join our squad by Sergeant McCullin after he says his commanding officer was killed in Martinville. One, since Guzzo is a radio operator, he should not be a private first class, but rather a grade of Technician which is a corporal’s patch with a T beneath it also known as a “tech corporal”. Two, Guzzo would not be sent into combat without a commanding officer, if said CO was killed, then a new one would be appointed to his squad. A sergeant from another company can’t just demand a soldier from a different squad to join his. The town is also modeled wrong with only a poorly represented and incorrectly placed version of the Saint lô ramparts being present. We are supported by too low-flying American P-47 fighters which were not present during the assault. The town in the game is very damaged but most of the buildings are still intact which was not the case of the real Saint Lô. We are also supported by Sherman tanks which is correct, but we do not see any tank destroyers, armored cars, or armored utility cars which were present as American armor during Task Force C’s assault. There were no German tanks opposing U.S. forces during Task Force C’s attack but rather anti-tank, mortar, and artillery fire. The Germans we face in this mission are all Waffen-SS when they should be a mix of Heer units of the 266th and 352nd Infantry Divisions as well as the 3rd Fallschirmjäger Division. The German counterattack that occurred at the end of the mission also never happened as the Germans fought valiantly and then retreated, they did not come back again.
