Launch of the GCRMN's Status and Trends of Caribbean Coral Reefs: 1970 - 2024

Описание: On 9 December 2025, the Global Coral Reef Monitoring Network (GCRMN), an operational network of the International Coral Reef Initiative (ICRI), launched the Status and Trends of Caribbean Coral Reefs: 1970 to 2024. This landmark regional assessment brings together more than five decades of monitoring data from 44 countries and territories to provide the most comprehensive overview of Caribbean reef health to date.
The webinar features presentations from report editors and regional experts, covering:

• Key findings on long-term trends in hard coral, macroalgae and reef fish
• Pressures shaping Caribbean reefs, including heat stress, disease and local impacts
• Case studies highlighting management success and lessons learned
• Priority recommendations to strengthen reef resilience and support coastal communities

The report reveals significant declines in coral cover since 1980 but also demonstrates that recovery is possible where local stressors are reduced and management is effective.
