From Revolutionary to General: The Epic Life & Mysterious Death of Thomas Francis Meagher
How did one man go from being sentenced to "death by hanging" in Ireland to becoming a legendary General in the American Civil War?
In this video, we tell the incredible true story of Thomas Francis Meagher (known as "Meagher of the Sword"). He was a man who lived a dozen lives in one: a revolutionary orator who first flew the Irish Tricolour, a political prisoner exiled to the ends of the earth in Tasmania, a daring escapee, and the leader of the famous Irish Brigade at the bloody battles of Antietam and Fredericksburg.
But his story doesn't end on the battlefield. Meagher’s journey took him to the wild frontier of Montana as Acting Governor, only for him to vanish into the dark waters of the Missouri River under mysterious circumstances. Was it an accident, or something more sinister?
In this video, we explore:
The Young Irelander Rebellion: Why Meagher chose the sword over the tongue.
The Prison Ship & Exile: His harrowing journey to Van Diemen's Land.
The Great Escape: How he reached New York and reinvented himself.
The Irish Brigade: The courage and sacrifice of the Union’s most famous fighting unit.
The Final Mystery: The strange theories surrounding his death in 1867.
