This series was released in 1978 and is 13 episodes long. It adapts the first 25 chapters of novel "Sentimental Swordsman, Ruthless Sword" (多情劍客無情劍)) written by Taiwanese writer Gu Long (古龍) by TVB. Part 2 (小李飛刀之魔劍俠情) of the series adapts the remaining chapters and events of the novel and is 8 episodes long. I only recently stumbled across a copy of this series after years of searching for it. I must say it was pretty nostalgic to watch and the 1970's seems to produce a lot of wholesome series. I also liked this series a lot because it was pretty faithful to the novel. I'd definitely recommend watching this series along with the films "The Sentimental Swordsman" and "The Return of the Sentimental Swordsman” released by Shaw Brothers in 1979 and 1981 respectively.

I was not too familiar with the cast, but the main actor was Paul Chu (朱江) as Li Xunhuan (李尋歡). I think he did well in the role, especially making the character come across as heroic. But when it comes to displaying how heartbroken and tragic the character is, I liked Eddie Kwan's version of the character in 1995. Tony Wong (黃元申) played the lonely swordsman, Afei (阿飛). I definitely liked his portrayal of Afei better than any other version that I have seen. Cecilia Wong was the main female lead as Lin Xian'er (林仙兒). I really enjoyed her version of the character. I think Cecilia Wong is one of those acrtesses that got more beautiful as they aged. This series was made in 1978 and she looked way more beautiful in Demi Gods and Semi Devils 1982. She was supported by Maggie Li as Lin Shiyin (林詩音). Part 2 of the series changed out the cast for some of the minor characters which I found annoying. Because this affects the continuity of the series. But it is what it is.

The theme song "Little Li's Flying Dagger" is sang by Roman Tam. It is yet another classical song from the 1970's and is hugely popular, even to this day. It has been covered by numerous artists and a widely sung karaoke favourite. Anyway, enjoy...
