This video introduces you to Mr. Ryusei Yokohama, one of Japan's hottest actors today. Ryusei was born in Yokohama, Kanagawa-prefecture to Japanese parents. (His last name has nothing to do with the name of the city he is from.) His father is a descendant of a Samurai family of the Morioka clan in Tohoku, northern Japan. Perhaps, it is in Ryusei's blood that he is so good at martial arts. He has a black belt in Karate and practices swordsmanship. From elementary school to high school, he competed in Karate tournaments, and he won ALL of them. Indeed, he was the world junior champion, and he can teach Karate if he wants to. Since he was so adept at Karate, his dream from childhood was to become a K-1 fighter. (K-1 is a martial arts organization and martial arts brand established in 1993, well-known worldwide mainly for its heavyweight division fights.) Ryusei also dreamt of going to the Olympics, representing his beloved motherland of Japan.
However, Ryusei was scouted to become an actor at the age of 12. He visited the Harajuku district in Tokyo during the summer vacation with his family; that was his first time in Harajuku. The scout agent approached his parents and offered a job opportunity. Although his parents did not appreciate the idea of Ryusei's going into the entertainment business, little Ryusei was curious. So, he convinced his parents to let him try out for a while.
In the beginning, Ryusei got no offer for a role in a film or a TV drama. He soon learned that the world of entertainment, too, was highly competitive like Karate, which aspect he loved and enjoyed. It was more like a game to him. It was only recently, Ryusei began to be noticed. The entertainment industry in Japan is filled with handsome ambitious young actors and actresses, so he knew that simply looking pretty does not cut it. Ryusei studied how to Act et al. He is competitive even as an actor and welcomes challenges.
Ryuhei also sings; he writes his own songs. His way of thinking is that one should challenge himself while he is still young. Ryusei still keeps up with martial art - Karate which is his first love. He is physically fit and strong which came in handy to play a role of a Samurai in a film.
