1️⃣ Step-back, Step-in: smooth & controlled, saves energy but a little slower.
2️⃣ Hop-back, Step-in: I find this to be most efficient, still controlled & an energy saver, but not the fastest.
3️⃣ Hop-back, Hop-in: quickest transitions, keeps your rhythm fast — but your heart rate’s gonna spike!
At the end of the day, there’s no “right” way — just the one that works best for you and your race pace. Whichever you choose, make sure to practice it in your training. Don’t wait for race day to make the decision!
