The COVID-19 outbreak in Brisbane demonstrates a “real lack of quality assurance in Queensland Health” according to Liberal Senator Gerard Rennick.
Queensland has recorded eight locally acquired cases of COVID-19 with 78 active cases of the virus currently in the state’s hospitals.
The further infections identified on Tuesday comes after the Queensland government plunged the entire state into a three-day lockdown on Monday night in an effort to stem the spread of the virus.
Mr Rennick said 11 days ago the chief health officer announced lockdowns would no longer be required to manage the coronavirus and the health system would focus on protecting the sick and the elderly.
“We were told 11 days ago by the chief health officer that things were running very smoothly and they had it all under control and yet here we are … and COVID’s been allowed to get out into the community,” he said.
“Qld Health and the Qld state Labor government have to improve their tracing and testing”.
