(23 Jun 2014) The Jordanian army has dispatched reinforcements to its border with Iraq to boost security after Sunni militants captured a key border crossing with Jordan on Sunday.
Military vehicles were seen at the al-Karamah border crossing, east of the Jordanian town of Ruwaished, on Monday.
The crossing was still open with trucks and cars seen passing through.
On Sunday, militants captured the Turaibil crossing with Jordan and the al-Walid crossing with Syria after government forces there pulled out, according to officials.
An Iraqi truck driver from Fallujah said he had seen militants at checkpoints and a military base in Rutba, on the main highway from Baghdad to the two border crossings, but that when he left it on Sunday, militant forces had been posted around 35 kilometres (22 miles) away.
The capture of the Turaibil crossing into Jordan has effectively cut the Iraqi capital's main land route to its neighbour.
