Nolan Groves’ half-court shot as time expired gave the Orono boys basketball team an 86-84 win over Benilde-St. Margaret’s in the Section 6AAA championship game. Groves’ shot was the third of three late-game buzzer-beaters in the game. Benilde-St. Margaret’s Jaleel Donley banked in a three-pointer at the end of regulation to tie the score at 70, sending the game to overtime. Orono’s Brady Wooley’s lay-in beat the buzzer at the end of the first overtime, tying the game at 73. Groves scored 45 points, giving him 121 points in Orono’s three section tournament games. BSM finishes its season with a 19-10 record. Orono (19-10) is in the state tournament for the second year in a row and the sixth time since 2010.
