Utkarsh Dhakhole, a 25-year-old engineering student from Nagpur, Maharashtra, was arrested for allegedly killing his parents at their home on December 26. The bodies of his parents, Liladhar and Aruna Dhakhole, were found decomposed in their Kapil Nagar residence on Wednesday morning, after neighbours complained of a foul smell.

According to police, Utkarsh had differences with his parents over his education and career. He had a struggling academic record and had failed to clear several subjects in his engineering course. His parents wanted him to quit engineering and pursue something else, but Utkarsh was against their suggestion.

On December 26, Utkarsh allegedly strangled his mother, Aruna, around noon, and later stabbed his father, Liladhar, to death when he returned home in the evening. He then left the bodies in the house and took his college-going sister to their uncle's residence, telling relatives that his parents had gone to Bengaluru for a meditation programme.

Utkarsh and his sister stayed at their uncle's place until the double murder came to light. He was arrested after police recovered the bodies and found evidence of the crime.
