Discussion Questions:
1. John uses imagery and symbolism because there was no free speech under Rome. How does that help you appreciate his creativity and courage?
2. Revelation 17:18 says the woman represents “the great city that rules over the kings of the world.” Why do you think most scholars agree this meant Rome?
3. John shows Rome as beautiful and powerful on the outside, but corrupt on the inside (Revelation 17:4). Can you think of modern-day examples where something looks appealing but hides corruption or brokenness?
4. John describes Rome as “drunk with the blood of God’s holy people” (Revelation 17:6). How does knowing about Nero’s persecution bring weight to that verse?
5. If “Babylon” represents anything that looks good but draws us away from Jesus, what could that be for you right now?
6. Have you ever felt like “Rome is going to win” in your own life—like sin, temptation, or fear was too strong? How did God meet you in that moment?
7. John’s message is simple: Jesus wins. How can keeping that truth in mind help you endure faithfully in your everyday struggles?
