Spanish police confiscated cannabis worth 400 million euros on a cargo ship on the high seas. The Irish section of the European Union's Anti-Drug Trafficking Unit oversaw the investigation and provided important intelligence on smuggling.
This led to the seizure of nearly 20 tons of cannabis on board the ship off the Canary Island on Sunday. The ship was on officials' radar as soon as it left North Africa.
A special unit of the Spanish police carried out the raid and found the cargo hidden among the shipment, and they arrested 11 individuals during the operation.
After the successful raid, Spanish police offered the confiscations in the Spanish port of Las Palmas. According to investigators, cannabis was moving to Western Europe, including Ireland.

He further stated that "the drug shipment occurred after several thorough investigations and intelligence from the Irish office at MAOC-N about suspected drug trafficking by the freighter Natalia.
Spanish officials captured the ship on August 8. The transport of drugs represents a major blow to the transnational crime group and also shows the advantages of international law enforcement cooperation.”
