Currently the green bin is for food waste and garden waste and is collected weekly. The blue bin, for dry recycling, is collected once every two weeks. The grey bin, for residual waste, is also collected once every two weeks, alternating with the blue bin.
The proposed new system, from March 2015, leaves the grey bin the same, collected once every two weeks. The blue bin is collected weekly, and the same vehicle collects food waste weekly from a new 23 litre bin supplied by Brent. If a resident still wants their green bin for garden waste only (not food waste) they will have to pay a £40 a year charge.
With the new system our household recycling rate will stay exactly the same.
