In this tutorial I show you how to make your mic sound better easily. The easiest method to make your microphone sound better is to use SteelSeries Sonar, which is a feature of the SteelSeries GG software. With Sonar you can quickly adjust how your microphone sounds using an equalizer, or by making use of the preset voice equalizer options. The presets do a good job at improving the way your microphone sounds without having to know how to use an euqalizer. However, you can freely adjust the equalizer if you want to fine tune how your voice sounds.
Although the best Sonar preset varies depending on your voice, you will typically want to use Broadcast Low Pitch, Deep Voice, or Less Nasal. By using a preset you can easily make your mic sound professional in any program you’re using. If you want to hear what your voice will sound like with your settings then you can record your voice using the record button on the right, then play it back using the play button.
Additionally, Sonar can make your mic sound better by removing background noise and clearing up the audio. The easiest way to do this is to use the Clearcast AI Noise Cancellation setting. This will do a pretty good job removing background noise and making your microphone sound better on it’s own. However, the setting you will need to use will vary. This means you will need to adjust the slider to suit your setup and microphone. Typically, setting clearcast to 43 will give you a good starting point. If there is too much background noise then you will want to move the slider to the right. However, if your voice is cutting out then you will want to move the slider to the left.
To make sure your microphone sounds good you will want to set your microphone volume correctly, this can be done using the sound settings. You can open the sound settings by right-clicking on the speaker icon on your task bar, then select sound settings.
With the sound settings open find the input options and select your microphone. Once done make sure the volume is set to 100, then go back to the sound settings. Next you will need to click the circle next to the SteelSeries Sonar – Microphone input device to make it your default microphone, then select it and again make sure the volume is set to 100%. Doing this will ensure your microphone is heard correctly, and SteelSeries Sonar receives your vocals appropriately for better microphone quality.
Once SteelSeries Sonar has been setup you will need to adjust your input device settings in applications you are using. For example, if you are trying to make your microphone sound better in Discord then you will need to open the Voice & Video settings on Discord and set your input device to the SteelSeries Sonar – Microphone option. Alternatively, some applications will allow you to change the input device through the volume mixer.
If you’re streaming or recording, then you can also use SteelSeries Sonar to make your microphone sound better in OBS. To make this work you will need to go to the audio settings in OBS and set your Mix/Auxiliary option to use the SteelSeries Sonar – Microphone option rather than your microphone. This will automatically apply your Sonar settings to your microphone.
