It is one of the hardest and most unnatural skills to learn when you start backcountry skiing or splitboarding. We are bringing you some tips to help you learn faster and have more fun exploring the backcountry.
Step 1: go to the highest point in the turn to avoid "rounding" out the turn. It will give you the best angle of approach for good traction.
Step 2: Setup your outside ski as steep uphill as you can before starting the turn
Step 3: Kick your heel back and then pivot your ski at your hip. Don't lift your feet in front of you.
Step 4: Stepping your weight across to the new ski. If you have flat tails, dive that tail under your original outside ski to make the move easier.
Step 5: Repeat step 3, Kick your heel back to lift the ski up, and pivot at the hip. This movement pattern will really help you move forward.
Let us know if this helped or if you need any more advice on improving your movements in the backcountry.
