In this lecture, educator explains the fetal membranes. It has two components Maternal & Fetal. Fetal component is made up of Trophoblast & Extra Embryonic mesoderm. Maternal component is derived from Uterine endometrium.

By beginning of second month the trophoblast is characterized by great number of secondary and tertiary villi.

Stem anchoring villi extend from mesoderm of chorionic plate to cyto trophoblastic layer of cells.

Surface of villi is covered by Syncytium which rest on layer of Cytotrophoblastic cells which in turn surround core of vascular mesoderm.In addition to this, Dr Hammad Haider has shed light on the functions of placenta in conjunction with the circulation of placenta. Moreover, types of placenta including placenta increta, placenta accrete, placenta percreta and placental abruption.

Furthermore, umbilical cord formation alongside the arrangements of fetal membrane in twins have been delineated. Besides, amniotic fluid and its abnormalities have been discussed. These anomalies include oligohydramnios and polyhydramnios.
