This DJ mix is a tribute to the legendary Roy Ayers, created in loving memory following his passing in 2025.
Roy Ayers was more than a vibraphonist or composer — he was a bridge between jazz, soul, funk, and spiritual music, shaping a sound that continues to influence generations of DJs, producers, and listeners around the world.

For this mix, I chose to build the concept around one of my most cherished Roy Ayers albums: He’s Coming (1972).
Although the structure of the mix ultimately allowed me to include only three tracks from the album, its presence is deeply woven into the emotional and musical backbone of this set.

One of the most important moments in this mix appears at track 12, right at the heart of the journey (12 out of 21 tracks).
That track is “I Don’t Know How to Love Him” — a song that has stayed close to me for many years.
Its vulnerability, arrangement, and quiet intensity perfectly reflect the spiritual and introspective side of Roy Ayers’ music.
Placing it in the center of the mix felt natural, almost symbolic — a pause to breathe, reflect, and listen deeply.

Another deeply personal moment arrives near the end of the mix with “Sweet Tears”, the second-to-last track.
Originally released on He’s Coming, this song later became widely known through the beautiful cover by Nuyorican Soul.
For me, “Sweet Tears” is not just a song — it’s a memory, a feeling, and a reminder of how Roy Ayers’ compositions transcend time, genre, and generation.

Interestingly, many of the songs that have stayed with me throughout my life seem to come from around 1972.
Marvin Gaye’s What’s Going On era, Roy Ayers’ He’s Coming, and countless other soul and jazz records from that year continue to resonate deeply with me.
There is something about that period — musically, emotionally, spiritually — that feels endlessly rich and meaningful.
Perhaps that’s why I find myself returning again and again to music born in that time.

This DJ mix is not intended to be a complete overview of Roy Ayers’ catalog.
Instead, it is a personal listening journey, shaped by emotion, memory, and respect.
It’s about flow, atmosphere, and storytelling — allowing the music to speak without rushing it.

Whether you are discovering Roy Ayers for the first time, or you’ve been listening to his music for decades,
I hope this mix offers a quiet moment of connection, reflection, and appreciation for a truly timeless artist.

今回のミックスは、私が特に大切にしているRoy Ayersのアルバム
『He’s Coming』を軸に構成しました。
構成上の理由から、結果的にこのアルバムから収録できたのは3曲のみとなりましたが、
この作品が持つ空気感や精神性は、ミックス全体の核として深く流れています。

このミックスの中でも特に重要な瞬間が、全21曲中12曲目、ちょうど真ん中あたりに配置した
**「I Don’t Know How to Love Him」**です。
この曲は、私にとって長年特別な存在であり、
繊細で内省的な雰囲気は、Roy Ayersの持つスピリチュアルで静かな側面を象徴していると感じています。
ミックスの中心にこの曲を置いたことは、自然な流れであり、
立ち止まって深く耳を傾けるための時間でもあります。

そして、ミックス終盤、最後から2曲目に配置した
「Sweet Tears」も、私にとって非常に大切な楽曲です。
この曲は『He’s Coming』に収録されているオリジナル曲であり、
後にNuyorican Soulによるカバーでも広く知られるようになりました。
「Sweet Tears」は、単なる一曲ではなく、
時代やジャンルを超えてRoy Ayersの音楽が生き続けていることを実感させてくれる楽曲です。

不思議なことに、これまで私が特別に惹かれてきた楽曲の多くは、
1970年代初頭、特に1972年前後にリリースされたものであることに気づきます。

あの時代特有の音楽的・精神的な深みが、今も私の心に強く響き続けています。

このDJミックスは、Roy Ayersの作品を網羅することを目的としたものではありません。
あくまで個人的な記憶と感情、そして敬意によって紡がれた音楽の旅です。
流れや空気感、ストーリーテリングを大切にし、
音楽そのものが語る時間を尊重しました。
