I took the train from Hamburg (≈1 hour) to Lauenburg — a former Hanseatic hub where the Old Salt Road met the river, later pushed to the edge of the West by the inner-German border. Timbered houses, steep lanes, a castle ridge with big views, and a working river that never stops.
