The first national park in the Himalayan Langtang National Park was established in 1976 in Nepal. The park stands at an elevation of 21,160 feet and is spread across an area of 660 sq. mi in the districts of Rasuwa, Nuwakot, and Sindhulpalchok. The region comprises 26 small-town communities. The Langtang National Park gained royal approval in 1970 as the first secured Himalayan area. The Langtang National Park remained unknown until an excursion made by Bill Tilman in 1949 where he ventured to find a way into Tibet. He uncovered a pass which is still known as Tilman’s pass leading toward the south through the untamed Jugal Himal that then led to Kathmandu. The valley is an uninhabited and undiscovered area even today.
